Marché de Lerme

In 1866, Bordeaux city council decided to build a small covered market on a plot of land containing a late 18th century circular square. The architect Charles Burguet, responsible for this building, chose a circular plan, without any gallery and of limited dimensions, suited to the square’s shape and surface area. He made abundant use of iron, metal and zinc. After a renovation, which shows off the building’s structure to best advantage, the Marché de Lerme is set to become a venue for temporary exhibitions and artistic events (concerts, conferences, activities), from 2011 onwards.
